The Shimadzu AGX-V Universal Testing Machine is a versatile instrument that provides mechanical testing in a wide range of applications. The instrument can both pull and push allowing the instrument to be set up for tension, compression, 3-point bend, and other configurations. Stress vs. strain curves are acquired by applying a load to the sample and measuring the deformation of the sample using an extensometer. The system uses a TRViewX Video Type Non-Contact Extensometer. This is a high-accuracy non-contact extensometer that measures the sample strain from captured images. It can accommodate everything from general materials to films that a contact extensometer cannot be attached to directly. Poisson’s ratio can also be determined from the TRViewX imaging extensometer data. From the stress vs. strain curves, the Young’s modulus, yield strength, ultimate strength, and numerous other properties can be calculated with high precision.
